WHO begins blockchain to combat with COVID-19

The World Health Organization (WHO) has associated on March 28 with significant blockchain and tech companies to start a distributed ledger technology (DLT)-based platform for distributing data concerning the coronavirus-Covid19 pandemic.

The coronavirus data centre is currently under development by IBM and Oracle.

The platform called MiPasais established on the top of Hyperledger Fabric and attempts to enable “early disclosure of COVID-19 carriers and germs hotspots.

MiPasa is the name for that project, and it has been launched in partnership with technology company IBM, computer firm Oracle, enterprise blockchain platform Hacera and IT corporation Microsoft.

The program or platform purports to expedite “completely private data distribution between people, country authorities and wellness organisations.”

According to the project’s web information:

“This project called “MiPasa” could support monitor and predict local and global epidemiological movement and detect likely asymptomatic carriers by feeding big data on infection routes and occurrences to powerful AI processors around the world.”

Several national health organisations also are contributing to the project and it is including the

  • U.S.,
  • European,
  • and Chinese Centres for Disease Control and Prevention,
  • the Hong Kong Department of Health,
  • the govt of Canada and
  • China’s National Health Commission.

The battle against Covid-19 highlights applications for DLT

The Covid-19 pandemic already has highlighted in a lot of the applications for blockchain technology.

On Annunciation, it had been reported that the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s Ministry of Community Development is adopting DLT-based solutions for biometric identification and therefore the distribution of official documents — allowing customers to securely engage with the MOCD from home.

Blockchain technology has also been suggested because the most effective means through which the United States’ stimulus package might be distributed with some proponents even proposing that the U.S. launch a DLT-based “digital dollar.”
